“At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished, it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better, it’s about what you’ve given back.”

Life Quarantined in Cuzco, Peru: Part Two

May 24, 2020 by Shaun Li Stoffer

I’ve been in quarantine going on ten weeks now with the President of Peru just announcing that he is extending the state of emergency for another five weeks. The only big difference with quarantine is that select restaurants are allowed to open for pickup and delivery. For me, I find it a bit pathetic to complain about being bored in quarantine as there are people who are losing their businesses, losing their homes, and losing their lives all over the […]

Things to Know Before Going to Cusco

April 2, 2020 by Shaun Li Stoffer

1. Stray dogs are everywhere. Overall, most seem in relatively good shape besides long-haired ones needing a grooming. In many countries, stray dogs are seen as pests because they crap on the sidewalk, go through everyone’s trash, or beg at markets or restaurants with outdoor seating. However, here, it seems they are just a part of normal, everyday life. Similar to my Florida life in how we have deer, squirrels, and Sandhill cranes everywhere and we don’t pay much attention […]

Things to ALWAYS & to NEVER Do When Traveling Abroad

March 10, 2020 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Things to ALWAYS Do Abroad: 1. Download films to watch and music to listen to offline on apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Music/Prime Video, Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube Music. Keep in mind, several apps like Hulu or Pandora are not normally available outside of the US or their selection changes by country such as Netflix. My choices are Netflix and YouTube Music because they have the highest selection, in my opinion, are affordable, and are available in the majority of […]

How I’m Studying Abroad in Cusco, Peru & Not Breaking the Bank

February 27, 2020 by Shaun Li Stoffer

1. Airbnb: I’m staying in a shared apartment with my host, but will have a private bedroom and bathroom as well as be staying in the city center. For 2 months of accommodation I am paying just under $330, split into two payments, half beforehand as a deposit/reservation and the other half of the payment halfway through my total stay. Because I booked for over a month, my host offered me a monthly price discount of 45% off of my […]

My Costa Rica Bucket List

December 27, 2019 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Costa Rica was originally supposed to be my senior trip back in 2009, but not enough students in my graduating class wanted to go and so the trip never happened. Frankly, going as an adult ten years later was indefinitely a better idea as I had the freedom and life experience to do it the right way as opposed to just going on tours with chaperones and staying in touristy hotels. Costa Rica is a country where you can do […]

My Guatemala Bucket List

November 20, 2019 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Why did I go to Guatemala? Because I wanted to find the beauty in the countries that most people would either fly over or stay in a luxury hotel on the beach or lake their entire stay. I wanted to meet locals, eat local, drink local, and see all the hidden gems Guatemala had to offer. I wanted to immerse myself in their culture and another way of living. In simpler terms, I wanted to become more cultured.     […]

My Siem Reap Bucket List

February 16, 2019 by Shaun Li Stoffer

1. Crocodile Farm: Went on a road trip with some friends from Siem Reap to Battambang, Cambodia. One of our stops was a crocodile farm where crocs are bred and raised for their meat and skin. Straightaway the owner showed us his baby crocs and offered to let us pick anyone of them up to hold. I didn’t hesitate but misunderstood him when he said, “they don’t bite if you hold them,” he meant to say, “they won’t bite if […]

Exiting Japan: Tokyo

August 4, 2018 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Tokyo was my last stop for my Japan trip and I had some reservations about going. I was growing tired of big cities, debating an over-packed itinerary, and was worried about being overwhelmed by a city even bigger than my old home of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. So, I just stuck with my instincts: check out a neighborhood a day at a time, relax at night, and just ride the wave. It was also the first time I decided to […]
