Etched In Adventure

“At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished, it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better, it’s about what you’ve given back.”

Day 1 in Calderitas, Mexico (3/11/22):-Calderitas is a paradise. No tourists and everything you need.-Today was Negrita’s first time seeing the ocean. She didn’t know what to do. We’ll come back tomorrow and try again. Day 2 in Calderitas, Mexico (3/12/22):-Proud dad moment seeing Negrita play in the ocean for the first time. Days 3-5 in Calderitas, Mexico (3/13/22-3/15/22):-Keys to being happy: lift heavy stuff, get in the water, try new things, realize all life is precious.-Going vegan is way […]

My Puerto Morelos Pit Stop

June 23, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Day 1 in Puerto Morelos, Mexico (3/1/22):-I’ve spent the last two weeks working everyday at the animal rescue in Chetumal. Haven’t had a life outside of them and going to the gym.-Agreed to ride 7 hours in a bus from Chetumal to Cancun to get supplies from a flight volunteer.-Decided to stop here on the way back. Frankly, it’s a bit of a disappointment. Very touristy, the main beach was absolutely filled with seaweed, and it was super windy today. […]

My Bacalar Getaway

May 21, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Day 1 in Bacalar, Mexico (2/9/22): -Immigration was the easiest walkthrough. No questions, didn’t ask me for any of my forms. Just got stamped and left.-The water is what you’ve seen in movies. It’s so blue it looks artificial.-Like a lot of Latin America, the majority of tourists are Europeans and Americans who just want to party outside of a typical bar or pub.-Bacalar is a mix between hippies, party tourists, and locals.-There are a lot of stray dogs. I […]

My Cancun Pit Stop

May 19, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Days 1-2 in Cancun, Mexico (4/21/22-4/22/22):-I didn’t really explore Cancun to be honest, I only came to Cancun to fly out of the international airport to take my foster Cindy to her forever home. -It came off way too touristy and overpriced for my liking. Instead, I spent my every waking hour fostering Cindy. We made it to Toronto and she is with her long-term foster now. The little butthead won me over in a matter of days and now […]

My Tulum Pit Stop

May 19, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Days 1-2 in Tulum, Mexico (4/18/22-4/19/22):-I like blue.-People have this idea that hostels are these rundown, sketchy accommodations and that’s just not the case – the majority of the time.-Palma Central is everything I want in my life and more. Good music, food trucks, and friendly vibes.-I ironically met a couple who said I looked familiar. Turns out they lived in Cuzco when I did back in 2020 and we knew several of the same people. Small world defined. What […]

My Playa Del Carmen Pit Stop

May 19, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Day 1 in Playa Del Carmen (3/3/22): -My first impression of Playa del Carmen is I love it. The combination of city and nature while being dog and expat friendly are big pros for me.-This guy was randomly selling crickets and peanuts on the street. I was happy to oblige him. In fact, it brought me back to my Southeast Asia days.-I had the luck of being green lit by the drug search dog while waiting for my bus. I […]

My Chetumal Bucket List

May 19, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Day 1 in Chetumal, Mexico (2/16/22): -Chetumal is the capital of Quintana Roo region and borders Belize.-Chetumal has an amazing mall with a food court and movie theatre.-The animal rescue I am working at is right across from this mall as well as a huge McDonald’s.-My first day we got a call to rescue two puppies who were severely emaciated and roaming the streets. I’m not the nicest guy, I’m not the smartest guy, and I’m not the toughest guy […]

My San Pedro Getaway

May 14, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Day 1 in Corozal, Belize [crossing the Mexican-Belize land border] (4/5/22-4/10/22 -I made my way by taxi through the Mexican-Belize land border this morning without issue. Showed them my passport, my vaccination card, and filled out two immigration forms. I am currently in Corozal waiting for my water taxi to the islands.-First impressions: the food and drinks here are out of this world.-I can’t understand anything anyone is saying. In Creole English and Spanish there is so little enunciation that […]

My San Juan Bucket List

January 9, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Day 1 in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico (12/27/21): -The castillos can be seen in a day easily. It’s not a long or hard trail.-Old San Juan is about as touristy as it gets. I ended up speaking more English than Spanish here.-There’s not nearly as much hustle and bustle here as you’d expect from a historical district.-I must’ve seen a half dozen restaurants with lines out the door because Old San Juan does not boast an absurd amount of […]
