Etched In Adventure

“At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished, it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better, it’s about what you’ve given back.”

Haggling in Hoi An

March 13, 2019 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Most people visit Hoi An on a romantic getaway, to party, since beers are cheaper than water, or to get a glimpse of the beautiful, traditional lanterns lit up and widespread throughout the small town at night by the rivers and beaches. Me? I came to practice my Vietnamese and even more so my haggling. On my recent trip to Hoi An I felt I won all my haggling except for with the old women there. Walking down the river by […]

My Siem Reap Bucket List

February 16, 2019 by Shaun Li Stoffer

1. Crocodile Farm: Went on a road trip with some friends from Siem Reap to Battambang, Cambodia. One of our stops was a crocodile farm where crocs are bred and raised for their meat and skin. Straightaway the owner showed us his baby crocs and offered to let us pick anyone of them up to hold. I didn’t hesitate but misunderstood him when he said, “they don’t bite if you hold them,” he meant to say, “they won’t bite if […]

The Pros and Cons of Teaching English in Taiwan

September 29, 2018 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Teaching in Taiwan: So far in my time in Taiwan I have taught first at an international American high school in Tainan in the south of Taiwan and then at a private secondary school in Taichung in the center of Taiwan. My time at the former was fantastic, my time at the latter was an absolute nightmare and one of the worst experiences of my life. Pro: For the most part, I absolutely loved my coworkers at both schools and […]

The Pros and Cons of Teaching English in Vietnam

September 24, 2018 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Teaching in Vietnam: During my time in Vietnam I taught at solely two ESL (English as a Second Language) centers both in Ho Chi Minh City. My first being one of the most popular language center chains in Vietnam called ILA Vietnam, but the particular campus I worked at was in a much more local area called Tan Phu district. My second being one of the most prestigious in Vietnam in a much more modern area in District 7, where […]

Living Abroad in Taiwan

September 16, 2018 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Tainan: I came to Tainan, Taiwan to work at an international American high school. I had grown tried of living in Vietnam despite having a high quality of life but things like pollution, communism, and the treatment of people, the environment, and animals pushed me to leave and find a new adventure. Random Facts About Living in Taiwan: 1. Every receipt is a lottery ticket with 8 digits printed on the top. The lottery is every two months countrywide. 2. […]

Exiting Japan: Tokyo

August 4, 2018 by Shaun Li Stoffer

Tokyo was my last stop for my Japan trip and I had some reservations about going. I was growing tired of big cities, debating an over-packed itinerary, and was worried about being overwhelmed by a city even bigger than my old home of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. So, I just stuck with my instincts: check out a neighborhood a day at a time, relax at night, and just ride the wave. It was also the first time I decided to […]
