Etched In Adventure

“At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished, it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better, it’s about what you’ve given back.”

My Hong Kong Transit

January 31, 2023 by etchedinadventure

-Hong Kong is one of the most expensive countries in the world but also the most livable. Incredibly pet friendly, safe, and the best public transportation which gives easy access to nature and fun activities like hiking and fishing.-The high speed train from Hong Kong to China’s Guangdong Province has finally reopened after being closed for three years more or less. The actual train ride was only 18 minutes from West Kowloon to Shenzhen North. However, immigration, security, and customs […]

My Yangshuo Study Abroad

January 6, 2023 by etchedinadventure

-Calligraphy is relaxing because you’re essentially painting words. However, I now understand why so many struggle learning the written form of Chinese. It’s somewhat like when you paint with colors. Mixing red and blue makes a new color in purple just like putting different characters together makes a new meaning. Same concept with how there are multiple shades of blue, there are multiple forms of Chinese characters and even cursive to write the simplest of words. This is why most […]

My Macau Getaway

December 31, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Some tidbits from my Christmas getaway to Macau (SAR) from Shenzhen to Zhuhai to Macau and back the same route. Overall, Macau doesn’t standout in my mind as a place that should be on anyone’s bucket list. It’s often referred to as Asia’s Las Vegas and I’d agree that’s true. The main things to do here are shop, gamble, and party. -Macau accepts Hong Kong dollars but not vice-versa as HKD is an international currency but MOP is not.-Getting COVID […]

My Wai Lingding Island Getaway

December 22, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Sometimes, it’s better to let photos speak for themselves. Wai Linding island is an island in Zhuhai and about an hour by ferry from the city. I would say it’s relatively similar to Guishan island so if you had to decide between the two, simply choose the closer option.

Life in Shenzhen: First Impressions

November 15, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Things that surprised me about China:-It’s super clean and full of nature. We are raised with this idea that China is full of smog and a concrete jungle with little care for the environment. That’s just not the case in Guangdong as lush trees are everywhere you look.-Public tansportation is incredibly easy and organized. Occasionally, I have to squeeze myself into packed trains during rush hour, but, besides that, getting around is so simple, organized, and is the definition of […]

My Nanjing Quarantine

November 13, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Quarantined in Nanjing, China (8/24/22):-Getting into China is still not easy. For me, the essentials I needed was my company invitation letter, work Z visa in my passport, and three different declarations for immigration and customs. Additionally, two rapid PCR tests, one within 48 hours of my departure flight time and another one within eight hours of it. -Therefore, check-in starts as early as five hours before boarding and PCR testing 8 hours before because you’re in the same long […]

My Guishan Island Getaway

November 5, 2022 by etchedinadventure

-Went on holiday to Guishan Island, Guangdong Province for October’s National Day. Ended up being the smoothest trip, literally. 40 minutes in a taxi, 40 minutes on a ferry, and then 5 minutes in a shuttle to my hotel. I’m 99.9% sure I was the only foreigner there. For whatever reason, I thought traveling there would be complete chaos and a total nightmare considering my Chinese is elementary at best. -Guishan Island wasn’t anything special in my eyes. Really small […]

Quarantining in Hong Kong

October 15, 2022 by etchedinadventure

Quarantine in Hong Kong Day 1 (8/14/22):-The procedure is actually relatively straightforward. Take a PCR test 48 hours before your final departure flight. I took mine two days before my initial departing flight and because I had over 20 hours of flying on top of layovers I had to reschedule my international flight and take a rapid PCR test like a complete idiot, but you live and learn.-Additionally, you need to make a health declaration online which gives you a […]
